The President and the Bible

In his remarks in Tucson, President Obama quoted Psalm 46:

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.

The president was using the New International Version, the favorite of evangelicals. Of the various translations of the passage, the NIV most clearly conveyed the president's message.

Similarly, he used the NIV for Job 30:26: "When I looked for light, then came darkness."

The president has quoted the NIV on other occasions as well.
