Lawmakers Who Were Around for the 1986 Tax Reform

With Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) on his way to becoming ambassador to China, how many remaining lawmakers were serving in 1986, the time of the last big tax reform?

In the House, 20 current members (9 R, 11 D) of the 113th Congress (2013-14) served in the 99th (1985-86). Twenty senators (8R, 12 D) served in the 99th Congress.  Of this total, 8 were in the Senate at the time, while 12 were in the House.

How many of these 1986 veterans serve on the tax-writing committees?  Two are on the House Ways and Means Committee:  Democrats Sander Levin and Charles Rangel.  The Senate Finance Committee has a larger contingent: Jay Rockefeller, Ron Wyden, Charles Schumer, Bill Nelson, and Thomas Carper, as well as Republicans Orrin Hatch (ranking member), Charles Grassley, and Pat Roberts.

Senate party leaders Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell were present for the 1986 tax reform (McConnell in the Senate, Reid in the House).  Neither Speaker John Boehner nor House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi were serving at that time.
